About This Special Issue
Worldwide, the problems of arsenic contamination are growing in scope and complexity. Pakistan, Bangladesh and India are facing this menace since long which is a big public health concern and adversely impacting the socio-economic conditions of millions of people in the Asian sub-continent. Consumption of arsenic contaminated water has been noticed/observed as slow poisoning process. Keeping in view the enormity of the problem and its impacts on human health, no worthwhile, resource integration efforts have been made to plan and mitigate this growing public health concern, especially in developing countries. There is a very little understanding and awareness about presence of drinking water arsenic contamination, as it is odorless, no color & taste, which makes it more harmful to public health.

Therefore, there is dire need of formulation of nation action plans for arsenic mitigation, based on resource integration approaches. The main objectives of special issue will be :

Objectives and Scope

a. To formulate institutional framework for creating government buying/ ownership , based on resource integration approach
b. Procedures for identifications of arsenic hit areas and arsenic contaminated water sources.
c. Public / community mobilization and participation in creating awareness amongst general masses of the affected areas.
d. To formulate various protocols and standard operating procedures to manage and mitigate arsenic contamination ill impacts.

Abstract: Arsenic contamination has emerged as a serious public health concern in Pakistan. Arsenic is an emerging serious issue at least in two provinces Punjab and Sindh where about 3% and 16% of water sources are contaminated with levels of arsenic over 50 ppb. The percentage of water sources with concentrations above the WHO level of 10 ppb is 20% and 36... Show More
